I included the following images on my note because the way my friend Edgar was posing it made him seem suitable for the note because he is wearing a suit and looking quite snazzy, the back round I honestly made on accident but either way it looks pretty cool with the different diamonds and circles floating around. The reason why my friend Domonick is on this note is because the photo of him is just hysterical to look at, I enjoy it quite a bit. Plus it suited a High Priest look because of the cross around his neck and the pose he’s making. The reason why the cat silhouette is the country seal is because cats are one of my favorite animals as well as it works with the name of the currency itself. The font of the country’s title suited the name, truthfully I think that it just complements the name quite nicely. An element that I really strived to use nicely was color and shapes, it makes the bill much more abstract than the average looking U.S notes. Texture and Value seem to be the most dominant elements in this image because of the feel of the back round as well as the lines of different shades of colors split up into the three parts of this image. The most successful thing in this note is probably how well everything blends together in the image, it all looks fairly put together.

Photo Collage

The Imagery that appears in my collage is a fairly obvious, it’s a very blissful and happy way of conveying paradise in my eyes. It’s just very childish and fun and the only real changes I made to my layers was add a vignette and add a texture to the back round of the image even though it’s not all that noticeable at the moment. I think my ideas changed in the way that I didn’t expect to have so many cat photos or anything like that on the beach but at the same time I believe that it works relatively well for the amount of randomness added to the image. Additionally something new I tried out was adding a vignette that was a different color than black, the tiffany color looks more suitable for the beach scene but in addition it’s probably the most successful thing about the photograph. If I was going to change anything it would be all the extra trees, boats, and people that are just kind of lingering around in the back round not really doing special. But overall I throughly enjoyed making this collage, I think I’ll be making a couple more in my spare time.

1. I think that ideal world would be filled with cats just roaming around the world, but they were all nice and didn’t hurt anyone. It may seem childish, but it would be ideal.

2. Not really any specific location, just on a beach preferably somewhere near the equator but not on it. Like Jamaica or somewhere in the Caribbean.

3. Bright Colors as well as sunny reflections  I suppose.

4. Definitely a lot of Kitty Cats, and happy things that I enjoy.

5. Not bad things such as war, tanks, dispute between others, or tomatoes. Well maybe tomatoes so that Ketchup may be manufactured.

6. Kind and Generous people, also people that have a good sense of humor. It’s boring having to laugh alone.

7. In a way where there was little to no conflict, or that where people would get over their disputes quickly and efficiently.

8. Cats will roam free, and there will be fish served at all times.

American Photography Part 3

I think the most eye-opening event in this movie for me was the part with the korean war prisoners. How the public never really knew all that well what was really going on there, until photographs were brought to everyone’s attention. The photo with the gun pointed right at the guy’s head seemed to take the cake and be the most popular in the set because that’s the one that everyone had seen and it had been in one of our old textbook. It seems to really express what was going on down there, the horrors that were committed and how they seemed to go unnoticed until the photos were released.

Photographs seem to have an intense effect on the world, they allow us to see even more of it that we could have even imagined on our own. Think how it would be like if we had never seen photos of different countries, of mountains, or other types of landmarks; would we even know they existed? Would we skeptical towards the rest of the world knowing that we hadn’t seen anything but a small fraction of it. I guess what I’m trying to say is that photographs expand our knowledge or the world around us without even having to visit these places.

Digital photos had a very large impact on our modern day society. For example it would be a lot harder to put photos on face book or tumblr without even being able to put them on the computer in the first place. They also allow us more chances to get that perfect shot that everyone is looking for, it’d be much harder to achieve this if you only got a couple shots. With digital, you can simply delete all the ones you don’t want and keep the ones that you do want. I think that if the video had extended to today they would talk more about phone cameras and the effect they have. It seems as though it makes people feel the need to document every second of their lives.

The reason why I chose Anna to photograph is slightly unknown even to me, I guess it’s because she has an interesting personality that’s hard to express through only using words. Very strange but innocent and I feel that the photos I’ve taken throughly expresses that about her, and also that she loves to go on her phone. I think the first photo in the set, “Staring at the Sun”, is my favorite because it brings out a mysterious tone and feel to it. It’s just a shift in personality compared to the others and thats why I enjoy it.

Photo Montage

Finding Friends in High Places

For the PhotoMontage project I chose three of my friends and the Waite Park tennis courts to photograph. The reason why I chose to photograph them is because they just happened to be with me at the time at I thought it would be interesting to have a photo where I have multiple friends just around in the photo. I think I found out that I enjoy photographing people rather than non-moving objects because it’s a lot more difficult to piece it all together but I enjoy the challenge if I believe it all looks good in the end. Additionally a difficulty I encountered while working on this is that it was relatively easy to splice all of the people together. However the back round was extremely difficult to put together because of the different angles, and I think that’s a thing I could do better  is to try to have one solid color back round or at least ones that are more similar than the separate colors, trees, houses, and whatnot. On a related note, the thing I feel I did well was putting the people together, which was my main focus, so I’m proud of the photo overall.

Photo of The Week – Oct. 22nd, 2012

I believe this is an example of decisive movement because at the very moment this photo is taken, the man is falling however it looks like he is running on water in a rather unorthodox fashion. Sometimes at a certain moment in the day I’ll take a photo of something because the light shines on it in a special way that makes it look better than at nighttime or later in the day, it’s a shot that can only be captured once a day. Like a tree can glow in the morning that you just can’t get at night time, or a stream can look better and more peaceful at night. It just all depends on the time of day that a photo is taken.

6. “Beams of Light”

My series is photographs of an abandoned Metro Transit building in the heart of Rosedale, and I chose this place because everywhere you look there’s a new story to see because not all of it happened at the same exact time. The fact that there are hundreds of stories in just one place sounded interesting to me, plus it’s a little chilling being in there and even looking at the photos; just to think “He went through there all by himself”. I guess I just wanted to show that one place could contain  so much information and personal accounts on what happened, even walking through there I couldn’t help but wonder to myself “What happened to this place?” I guess I discover a new part of that building every time I go there, or just go over the other places that I’ve been. For the most part it’s all new to me, so much more to explore. I think my favorite picture in the set is probably “Hangman” because at first glance it may look like a man hanging himself, it’s just got such a lighter meaning when you really look at. There’s a life lesson in the photo somewhere.

Proposal: Documentary Photograph

1. I am planning to document an abandon Metro Transit building in Roseville, it’s right next to Cleveland Ave. and I’m sure there are some interesting stories there.

2. I chose this idea because it seems like there’d be a bunch of cool stuff there.

3. An old Metro Transit Building in Roseville.

4. I don’t have a definite idea because I haven’t been there in a couple months but pretty much any cool thing I can find.

5. Hopefully I’ll be able to get there on Sunday, but if not then definitely on Saturday.

Ansel Adams Flim

Ansel Adams was one the earliest popular photographers fro the United States, he was famous for his use of black and white photos of the early American West. Ansel was born in San Francisco in the year 1902, and he died just a little upstate in Monterey in the year 1984. For the majority of his life, Ansel switched between living in San Francisco with his family and living Toronto. When Ansel first moved out to San Francisco he met a couple other great photographers of the time. The fact that he was very social and intriguing, as well as he played piano, made him the life of the party among the rest of the photographers.

His wife’s name was Virginia Rose Best, and they got married in 1928 and they had their first child in 1933 his name was Michael. There was a fair amount of detachment between his son and him because in the video, his son commonly referred to him as Ansel rather than my father. He was inspired by other artists of the time such as Paul Strand and Edward Weston. He had met Paul early on in his life when he first moved out to San Francisco, Paul was also a famous photographer of the American Southwest during that time. I think that he may have been inspired by Paul even when he met him there and it may have influenced his future artwork as well as his career.

The thing that really made Ansel unique from the other photographers of the time is that he revolutionized the art. He was one of the first major photographers to start taking picture of the American West and the landscapes and mountainous regions of Yosemite National park as well as the newly founded national parks of the time. Including his first portfolio of the sierra nevada mountain range. And I think that he photographed because he enjoyed it, I don’t think a person would completely thrown themselves into their career if they didn’t enjoy even a little bit. Unless they were just in it for the money but I doubt he was in it only for the money.

The photograph I chose was Ansel’s creation called “The Tetons and The Snake River”. The subject matter of the picture is the river, although an argument could be made for the mountains even though they’re in the backround while the river is mostly flowing through the center. The angle of the photograph is most definitely establishing shot, it gives a very broad view of the landscape. The elements that really stick out to me are texture and lines. Texture sticks out a little bit more because just by looking at the mountains you can only imagine how the rocks and roughness of it feel as well as the lines of sunshine coming up from behind the clouds and how it really brings the sky together. I think it’s a successful photograph and what I like about it is that it’s not your typical mountainous region and river over looking the mountains. Every small piece of this photograph adds to it’s beauty and really makes it stick out in my mind.
